The Monadnock Rail Trail begins in Winchedon and crosses the border to Jaffery, New Hampshire. The trail is unpaved for much of its initial length, but becomes an asphalt surface near the Contoocook Marsh Conservation Area until it reaches the town of Jaffrey. From there, the trailheads for Mount Monadnock are just another 5 miles away on surface roads.
To get to the start of the trail, use the $10 MBTA weekender commuter rail pass to travel from Boston North Station to Framingham Train Station. From there, the trail head can be reached by cycling along vehicle roads out of the to Winchedon.
